MOT stands for Ministry Of Transport. By law all UK vehicles 3 years and over require
a valid MOT certificate, some private hire vehicles such as taxis need an MOT every
year.
The MOT test was introduced in 1960, MOT tests to this date are still used to ensure
all cars, motorcycles and light commercial vehicles more than 3 years old are properly
maintained and roadworthy.
At least once a year a vehicle must be examined at an authorised MOT test station
to make sure that they comply with certain important requirements of the law.
MOT test can be carried out on your vehicle up to one month prior to the expiry
date of an existing UK MOT certificate provided that a current MOT certificate is
presented to the examiner at the time of the test. The maximum fee for a duplicate
certificate for a car is £10, if your vehicle has had an MOT test at Black Diamond
your first duplicate is free.
